Beer Day Britain – Say Cheers to Beer Weekend
June 15th – 18th 2017
Beer lovers of Britain rejoice! Not only do we have Beer Day Britain (national beer day) on June 15th but this year it is being extended into a long weekend called ‘Say Cheers To Beer’ to celebrate the national alcoholic drink. The dates are Thursday June 15th to Sunday June 18th (Father’s Day). This is a national party that everyone is invited to.
Thousands of pubs, brewers, and beer retailers across the country will participate starting with the National Cheers To Beer on June 15th at 7pm. This simple but effective idea entails people raising a glass of beer and saying ‘Cheers To Beer’ and then posting a social media message with the hashtag #CheersToBeer. The aim is to trend on Twitter again this year. Social media is already lit up by users discussing what plans they have for Beer Day Britain. To help you with social media, the organisers of Beer Day Britain have produced a digital toolkit with free to use materials. They are available for download here.
A variety of events and initiatives will be happening during the Say Cheers To Beer weekend. Pubs, breweries, retailers, ale trails, and others are planning activities. These include beer festivals, tap takeovers, special beer & food matching menus, meet the brewer sessions, open houses at breweries, beer tasting tutorials, free beer giveaways and discounts in pubs for Dad on Father’s Day. Several breweries have brewed celebration beers including Brewster’s in collaboration with Yeastie Boys on a pimped version of Britannia’s Brew, the official beer of Beer Day Britain. This year it contains Earl Grey in addition to the botanicals that represent the home nations. British Embassies overseas, including Bulgaria are hosting parties on Beer Day Britain that will highlight British beer and pubs.
Beer Day Britain was instigated by Jane Peyton, beer sommelier, drinks educator, writer and was a speaker at the recent International Food & Drinks Event 2017 at London’s Excel. Jane has partnered with the national beer campaign ‘There’s A Beer For That’ to develop the Say Cheers To Beer weekend. The aim of There’s a Beer For That is to reignite Britain’s love-affair with beer and highlight its diversity, variety and quality.
Jane Peyton said “Beer is the most convivial of all drinks and tastes much better when consumed in company. We are encouraging people to meet up with friends and family and celebrate Britain’s national alcoholic drink together as the country unites for a national party and says ‘Cheers To Beer’!
